GR Training School-Groomed 336 New Recruits Pass Out

A total of 336 new recruits trained at the Gajaba Regimental (GR) Training School at Saliyapura under the Regular Recruit Batch - No 71 and the Volunteer Recruit Batch - No 22 passed out on Tuesday (23) during a colourful parade at GR RTC - Ipalogama.

Major General Vikum Liyanage, General Officer Commanding, 21 Division as the Chief Guest received their salute where a section of their parents and relatives were present.

Those new recruits received a four-month long training at the Gajaba Regimental Training School under the close supervision and direction of the GR Centre Commandant, Brigadier Dinesh Udugama.

Recruit H. Sithija received Best Shot and Best Recruit awards while the Recruit W.A.P.N.J Sampath carried the Best in Physical Training award. Both of them accepted those awards from the day’s Chief Guest.

Gajaba Regimental Training School at Saliyapura was established on an initiative of the Founder Father of the Gajaba Regiment, Late Major General Vijaya Wimalaratne on 01 June 1989, realizing the importance of having an own GR institute for training purposes. As a result, the GR Training School has groomed a total of 17,128 Recruits to-date.
