A string of humanitarian donations plus more and more financial contributions towards the ongoing Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB) projects emerged prominent during the SVAB monthly meeting that took place on Friday (29).
Mrs Manjulika Jayasuriya, President, SVAB chaired the routine session where all projects now in progress were reviewed and steps taken to rectify or remedy the shortcomings, if any.
The Commander’s brainchild, “Abimansala”, the state of the art holiday resort for dependent disable War Heroes at Anuradhapura received further fresh impetus after the meeting when the International Constructions Consortium (Pvt) Ltd and the organization, ‘Success’, Colombo offered their financial contribution for completion of the ‘Abimansala ’ project.
The International Constructions Consortium (Pvt), impressed with the objective of the ‘Abimansala ’ project presented a cheque to the value of Rs 1 million to Mrs Manjulika Jayasuriya. The organization, ‘Success’, Colombo followed suit and donated Rs 400,000 towards the worthy cause on the same occasion. Mrs Jayasuriya acknowledged the gestures and wished good luck with their future work.
Similarly, Mrs Sepali Samarasinghe, President, Sri Lanka Medical Corps Seva Vanitha Unit made a symbolic donation of furniture that could be used for the ‘Abimansala’ project. Its value was estimated at Rs 2 lakhs.
Sri Lanka Ordinance Corps, following the footsteps of other generous donors presented a cheque to the value of Rs 5 lakhs for construction of the ‘Abimansala’ project in addition to an offer of two electric irons, two filters and 250 new towels. Mrs M Salley, President, Sri Lanka Ordinance Corps Seva Vanitha Unit made those contributions after the meeting sessions. Mrs Jayasuriya received the contributions.
Mr Mayura Wasantha and his friends in the meantime offered a cash donation of Rs 1 lakh towards completion of the partly-built house and the wash room, belonging to the disable War Hero, Corporal G.P.R Jayarathne of 8th Gemunu Watch (GW).
In another gesture of goodwill and charity, Mr Asanga Wettasinghe and Mrs Kanchana Wickramasinghe jointly made a financial donation of Rs 1 lakh to support reconstruction of the partly-built house of the disable officer, Lieutenant Nalaka Chandradasa of Sri Lanka Light Infantry. Mrs Jayasuriya spoke high of their considerateness and thanked them for the encouragement.
On the same occasion, Mrs Amara Nanayakkara, the senior SVAB member in charge of the Seva Vanitha project at Mulleriyawa Women’s Mental Hospital, presented a special award of appreciation received by her from the hospital authorities back to Mrs Manjulika Jayasuriya, President, Seva Vanitha Army Branch, amidst applause. Mrs Nanayakkara through her commitment and dedication to the SVAB maintained Mulleriyawa hospital ward project, has been successful in completing several projects for the benefit of its patients.
Several more students of War Hero families on the same occasion received scholarships for higher studies which had remained earmarked for them to coincide with the Army 61st anniversary celebrations which concluded recently.
