General Shavendra Silva, Head of the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO), Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army observed how vaccination programme in Colombo is underway, visited the Army Seva Vanitha Unit-managed Vaccination Centre at MOH office Pitakotte this morning (12).
The Army Seva Vanitha Unit, chaired by Mrs Sujeewa Nelson which was also instrumental in supporting the operational aspect of the Army-improvised new Intermediate Care Centre at Seeduwa, volunteered to run this Vaccination Centre in Moratuwa with Army medical staff considering it as a national commitment. Several other Army-managed Vaccination Centres are operational in Colombo.
Accompanied by a few Senior Officers, he visited several other Vaccination Centres and shared a few words with health staff and service personnel working there. He also spoke to some civilians, waiting for the inoculation and inquired into health guidelines and precautions, practiced by them.
