General Engineer Brigade Constructs New House for the Widow

Embilipitiya-based troops of the General Engineer Brigade, aware of the hardships being experienced by a widow with three children without a home, came forward to build a new house with funds, made available through Major General Susil Chandrapala (Retd).

The expatriate, Mr. Lalith Jayasundara at the request of Major General Susil Chandrapala (Retd) volunteered to fund the project.

The coordination with donors made the troops to undertake the project swiftly and complete it within a couple of weeks. On Monday (14), the beneficiary, Mrs. K.D. Niluka Dayani with three children warmed the new house at Karavilayaya, Thunkama and received keys from Major General Susil Chandrapala (Retd) and the donor, Mr. Lalith Jayasundara who were present at the inaugural warming ceremony.

The expertise of 12 (V) Corps of Engineer Services (12 (V) CES) under the command of the General Engineer Brigade provided their technical knowledge and manpower to build the house under the close supervision of Major K.W.U.M Gunathilaka, Commanding officer of 12 (V) CES. Brigadier Chandika Peiris, Commander, General Engineer Brigade gave necessary instructions for the success of the project.
