General Amnesty Received by More Army Deserters

A total of 1341 other rankers and two officers of the Army who are considered as Absent Without Official Leave (AWOL) have been issued with their legal discharge by Tuesday (13) evening under the ongoing month-long (December 1 - 31) general amnesty period which came into effect on December 1, 2016.

During the 13-day period, a total of 1675 other rankers and two officers have sought their discharge after reaching respective Regimental Centres across the country but legal formalities for discharge of 334 of those other rank absentees are however needed to be sorted out before their discharge which is time-consuming.

This is the second general amnesty, offered to tri service deserters during this year. The first was in effect from 13 June to 12 July, 2016. Those yet to report for discharge are encouraged do so before the general amnesty ends on December (31).
