The Green Agriculture Operations Center (GAOC) on Monday (14) during a meeting with 10 private sector organic fertilizer producing companies in both Polonnaruwa and Anuradhapura districts, District Secretaries, National Fertilizer Secretariat and other respective authorities explored possibilities of providing necessary fertilizer stocks for the forthcoming ‘Yala’ season, well in time causing no delay for farmers whatsoever.
General Shavendra Silva, Head, Green Agriculture Operations Center (GAOC), Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army chaired the brief meeting. It was attended by District Secretary of Polonnaruwa, Mr. W.A Dharmasiri, District Secretary of Anuradhapura, Mr. Janaka Jayasundara, Director National Fertilizer Secretariat, Mr. Chandana Lokuhewage, Advisor to the State Ministry of Agriculture Dr. Hemantha Wijewardana, Anuradhapura District Director of Agriculture Mrs K.L Thenuwara, Polonnaruwa District Director of Agriculture, Mr R.P Upali, Army District Coordinating Officers for Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa districts, authoritative private sector representatives of Sasshrika Lanka, SMS Eco Products, Sri Bio Tech, Eco Bio Korea, Biotin, Bio National Foods, Lucky Agro, Live Life, Agstar Private Limited and SS Supply Corps companies, based in both districts and several other respective state and private sector officials.
Production, distribution and Army coordination processes in both those districts were taken up for review and discussion in the presence of those private sector producers and their views were given due hearing during the session.
During discussions, General Shavendra Silva, Head, GAOC requested fertilizer manufacturing companies to ensure required organic fertilizer stocks for ‘Yala’ season reach farming communities well in advance in order to dispense with shortcomings that occurred during the previous ‘Maha’ season.
Director, National Fertilizer Secretariat, Advisor to the State Minister of Agriculture, Anuradhapura and Plonnaruwa district Directors of Agriculture, Army District Coordinating officers in Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa districts, and several other respective authorities participated in the discussion.
