France-Bound Army Judo Players Receive Commander’s Blessings

The Sri Lanka Army Judo Committee has fielded 9 Army Judo players to represent the World Military Judo Championship - 2021, scheduled to be held in Paris in France from 28 October to 4 November.

A contingent of 25 tri-service Judo players are expected to attend the tournament after an invitation was extended to the Ministry of Defence.

Those Army Judo players prior to their departure to France, together with their coaches, managers and administrative officials on Friday (22) called on General Shavendra Silva, Chairman of the National Sports Selection Committee (NSSC), Chief of Defence Staff, Commander of the Army at the Army Headquarters and received his instructions and best wishes for their participation in the tournament.

The Sri Lankan contingent, adhering to health guidelines would operate in a bio-bubble during the entire period of the games and the whole team should ensure those guidelines are well respected, the Army Chief told the contingent.

Major General Priyantha Weerasinghe, Chairman, Army Judo Committee and DOS, Brigadier Thusitha Hettiarachchi, Deputy Chairman Army Judo Committee and Center Commandant Sri Lanka Army Medical Corps, a few more officials of the group were also associated with the interaction at the Commander's office.
