Ex-LTTE Family Members Get Eye Sights Examined


Troops serving the 222 Brigade Headquarters at Jayanthigama, Kantale in the hope of assisting civilians with eye sight ailments, recently had a mobile eye clinic organized at Ichchalanpattu rural hospital in Kantale.

This eye clinic mainly treated civilians of 65 former ex-LTTE families of the LTTE, now resident in this area, together with other civilians and was managed by several eye surgeons, headed by Consultant Eye Surgeon Dr. T.R. Edirisinghe.

After screening, 222 Brigade Headquarters took 30 of them for surgeries at Kantale hospital from Verugal in transport provided by the Army. Another group of civilians, who needed lens implanting after consultations were also facilitated to get their implanting done with assistance, extended by the Army.

This programme was initiated on the instructions of Brigadier P.I. Pathiratne, Commander, 222 Brigade as one more community-oriented project of the 222 Brigade. More than 150 civilians in the area received medical consultations during the mobile clinic.
