Engineer Troops Build Overhead Bridge for Use of Students at Kotapola

The formal vesting ceremony of a newly-constructed overhead bridge across the road, erected by 4 (V) Sri Lanka Engineers Troops on a directive of General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army connecting Beralapanathara Maha Vidyalaya premises at Kotapola, Matara took place a few days ago in the presence of a few invitees.

The Chief Field Engineer as advised by General Shavendra Silva entrusted the construction of this novel overhead bridge erection to 4 (V) Sri Lanka Engineer Regiment. The length of the bridge is 19m and the width is 1.5m. Although the estimated cost of the project was Rs 21.74 m, 4(V) SLE troops managed to construct the bridge with a sum of Rs 16.29 m, thus saving about Rs 5 m to the Government.

The inauguration of the overhead bridge was witnessed by the Parliamentarian, Hon Nipuna Ranawaka who is also the Chairman of the District Development Committee for Matara, Chief Field Engineer of Sri Lanka Army and Colonel Commandant of Corps of SL Engineers Major General Nihal Amarasekara, Mr Buddika Diyagama, Asst Secretary to Ministry of Finance, Director plans District Secretariat office Matara, State officials, Pasgoda, Zonal Education Director Kotapola, Principal of the Beralapanathara Maha Vidyalaya and students of the school attended the opening event.
