East Troops Expand Their Humanitarian Roles


A Shramadana campaign to clean Sri Mahindarama temple at Arunapura, Dimbulagala together with the villagers was conducted by 11 Sri Lanka Artillery (SLA) of the 232 Brigade of 23 Division under Security Force Headquarters - East (SFHQ-E) on 22 April.  

On the same day, 223 Brigade Headquarters and 22 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) under SFHQ-E celebrated the Sinhala and Tamil New Year festival on a grand scale at Vakarai Public Grounds and Serunuwara Public Grounds respectively.  Both celebrations were attended by civil and army personnel who participated in traditional New Year games and fun-making events. 

Following day (23), 27 Sri Lanka National Guard (SLNG) in 222 Brigade of the 22 Division under SFHQ-E with Poonagar Cricket Club promoting the co-existence among civilians and Army personnel, organized a friendship cricket match at Poonagar playground.

On 21 April, a Dengue prevention campaign at Mancholei, Sinna, Kinniya was conducted with the cooperation of Health Officers and the Kinniya Police Station, by 15 Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) of the 224 Brigade of 22 Division under the SFHQ-E.

Meanwhile, the SFHQ-E conducted a 45-day long English course for the officers serving the SFHQ-E. Under the directions of Major General Lal Perera, Commander, SFHQ-E, the English Course was organized with the intention of developing English knowledge of the officers.
