Security Force Headquarters - East (SFHQ-E) responding to the SOS need of drought-hit civilians in the eastern province, made elaborate arrangements for supply of water to civilians, together with relief dry-ration packets.
Civilians in Mahindagama village at Welikanda received 25 water tanks placed on roadsides and Army troops of the 233 Brigade filled them with drinking water, provided by Army bowsers.
Maliban Biscuits Manufacturers provided those tanks at the request of the 24 Sri Lanka National Guard Battalion troops of the 233 Brigade.
Similarly, 8 Sri Lanka National Guard (SLNG) troops of 232 Brigade at Periyawadduwan, 4 Sri Lanka Army Service Corps (SLASC) troops of 222 Brigade in Hingurakgoda, 27 SLNG troops of 222 Brigade at Ichchalampattu, 222 Brigade troops of 22 Division, 8 Sri Lanka Artillery (SLA) Regiment troops at Minneriya, 6 Sri Lanka Armoured Corps (SLAC) Regiment of 221 Brigade at Gomarankadawala and several other units of the SFHQ-E during the past 1 week, were busy providing drinking water to the civilians in respective areas on the directions of Major General Lal Perera, Commander, SFHQ-E.
Meanwhile, 24 SLNG troops in Sinhapura under the 233 Brigade, 3 SLNG troops in Panichchankerni, in addition to supply of drinking water, presented school bags and dry-ration packets to families in Sinhapura and Wakarai, thanks to the sponsorship of Mrs Indrani Mendis of ‘Chethana Association’ for welfare of children.
In the meantime, 27 SLNG at Ichchalampattuwa under the 222 Brigade recently conducted a Dengue prevention campaign in respective areas with the support of the public. A similar cleaning project took place at the Thillinagar bus stop in Trincomalee with the participation of 2 Gajaba Regiment troops.
Meanwhile, 6 SLAC troops in Gomarankadawala under 221 Brigade during a self-help programme cleaned up the public well at Morawewa.
