A total of 70 Officers, including the Commander, Security Forces -East, Major General Priyantha Jayawaradena, Brigade Commanders, Commanding Officers, and unit Officers attended a three-day long workshop on 'Violent Extremism and New Trends' that got underway at the SFHQ-East.
Lecture sessions, conducted by Mrs Sinduja Jayaratne, Lecturer, Department of Strategic Studies, Faculty of Defence & Strategic Studies at General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University included topics such as “Introduction to Extremism”, " Different Terror tactics", “Jihadist Thought and Practice”, Al Qaeda and its Global and Regional Impact”, “ISIS and its Global and Regional Impact ”, "Propaganda and its Effects”, "Regional terror landscape related to Islamist Extremism’, “Islamist Extremism and New Security Dimensions”, "Extremism and its Impact on Sri Lanka”, etc
At the end of the session, a special memento was presented to the lecturer as a token of appreciation.
