East-Based Multi-Religious Leaders Discuss Relevant Issues

With the sole intention of further strengthening bonds of religious amity, harmony, co-existence, reconciliation and understanding among different ethnicities, the Security Forces Headquarters - East (SFHQ-E) organized two meetings of religious leaders in Ampara and Batticaloa Districts on Monday (28).

Both meetings chaired by Major General Lal Perera, Commander, SFHQ-E discussed ways of further promoting sentiments of goodwill and reconciliation, respecting different faiths since both Ampara and Batticaloa provinces have residents of different ethnicities and religions.

The Ampara meeting was held at the Task Force - 3 Headquarters at Akkaraipattu while the other one was conducted at Singing Fish hotel in Batticaloa.

Religious leaders of Hindu, Catholic, Islamic and Buddhist faiths, including Ven Ananda Thero of Buddangala Viharaya were associated with these multi-religious meetings.

These religious leaders requested the SFHQ-E to have such meetings at least once a month since they would be a good platform for all of them to evaluate current trends and areas that need attention.
