DSC Marks its 15th Anniversary with Religious Programmes

An all-night 'Pirith' chanting ceremony, held Wednesday evening (19) at the Defence Services College (DSC), Colombo 02 on account of its 15th anniversary invoked blessings on the country, students, teachers, staff and all.

The Secretary Defence, General Kamal Gunaratne (Retd), General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army and Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne, Commander of the Navy at the invitation of the DSC Principal attended the inauguration of the chanting and joined religious rites and rituals before a member of the Maha Sangha delivered an oration, 'Anushasana' explaining the significance of the event.

This meritorious event, organized by the Principal and the DSC Buddhist Association preceded the conduct of a colourful procession, in which monks arriving for chanting were taken to the 'Pirith' mandapaya. DSC students, parents, artistes and administrative staff joined the spectacle which wended its way along Malay Street.

A 'Heel Daana' (breakfast) to members of the Maha Sangha this morning (20) marked the culmination of the anniversary commemoration.

Senior military officers, parents and students attended the ceremony.

The Defence Services College is a National school established on 17 January 2007 for the children of military and Police personnel in the refurbished previous Rifle Barracks building that has been built in the year 1860 as part of the Regimental headquarters of the then Ceylon Rifle Regiment at Rifle Green, Slave Island, Colombo.
