Dog Handlers Pass Out & Chief Guest Opens New Veterinary Hospital for Explosive Detection Dogs

The Passing Out Parade of the “Explosive Detection Dog Handler Basic Course No-4” and opening of the “Veterinary Hospital” in K9 Section at Field Engineer Brigade in Boo Oya got underway on Tuesday (30).

The Chief Field Engineer and the Colonel Commandant of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers, Major General Nihal Amarasekara graced the occasion as the Chief Guest on the invitation of the Commander, Field Engineer Brigade, Brigadier Dumindu Jayasinghe.

Explosive Detection Dog Handler Basic Course No 4 conducted under the directions and guidance of the Chief Field Engineer and the Commander Engineer Division produced 29 Dog Handlers and 24 Explosive Detection Dogs who passed out with their handlers. Handlers received their certificates and badges from the Chief Guest. Finally, the Chief Guest addressed the troops while appreciating the commendable efforts and dedication of instructors and dog handlers for bringing down required standard of Explosive Detection Dogs.

The Chief Guest in Field Engineer Brigade declared opened the Veterinary Hospital, which remained a long-felt need of the K9 Section at Field Engineer Brigade. The Veterinary Hospital houses a Surgical Theater, Preparation Unit, Recovery Unit and Ward. Further, it is comprised of Ultra Sound Scanning, Electro Cardiograph unit and Digital Radio Graph Reading facilities. This hospital was built by the troops of Field Engineer Brigade and 4 (V) Sri Lanka Engineers under the allocations provided by State Ministry of Rural Housing and Construction & Building Materials Industries Promotion.

To mark the opening of Veterinary Hospital, the Chief Guest planted a sapling at the K9 Section in the Field Engineer Brigade.

Major General Chandana Wijayasundera, the Commander Engineer Division, Brigadier Mahinda Jayawardana the Commander Plant Engineer Brigade, Brigadier Dumindu Jayasinghe the Commander Field Engineer Brigade, Brigadier Mangala Mayadunna the Centre Commandant Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers, Lieutenant Colonel F Joseph the overlooking Commander General Engineering Brigade, Colonel Project Field Engineer Brigade, Commanding Officers of 8, 9, 10 Engineer Regiments and 14 CBRN Regiment, Officers and Other Ranks of Field Engineer Brigade and under command regiments participated in the events.
