District Coordinators on COVID-19 Discusses Control Work

One more round of the District Coordinating conference for prevention of COVID - 19 pandemic was held at the District Secretariat office, Matale on Tuesday (2), headed by Major General Nishantha Manage, District Coordinating Officer for Matale who is also the General Officer Commanding of the 53 Division.

He had a lengthy discussion with the District Secretary, Matale Mr S.M.P. K Perera and other stakeholders on the sudden increase of Covid - 19 positive cases in Matale district and all measures taken to prevent the spread of the pandemic, impact on the community, isolation procedures, current progress, responsibilities, conduct of awareness programmes, progress of conduct of random PCR/Antigen tests and the need for implementing a proper mechanism to curtail the spread of the virus in coordination with the Police, government and health authorities during the conference.

Police representatives, health workers and several officials attended the conference as stakeholders to discuss matters pertaining to prevention of Covid -19 pandemic in the district.

Meanwhile, Major General Priyantha Perera, District Coordinator for COVID -19 Control and Prevention in Jaffna who is also the Commander, Security Forces-Jaffna, together with the District Secretary for Jaffna, Mr. K Maheshan presided an official meeting with health sector officials and stakeholders as well as with administrators at the Jaffna University on Wednesday (03) at the District Secretary's office in Jaffna.

Meanwhile, the Commander, Security Forces-Wanni, Major General Hemantha Bandara as the Overall Coordinator of Prevention of COVID - 19 for District of Vavuniya took part in a meeting at the District Secretariat Office - Vauniya on 01 February 2021, together with Regional Director of Health Services, government officials, wholesale traders with officers of the Army and the Police.

During the meeting, District Coordinator, District Secretary - Vavuniya Mr S.M Saman Bandulasena and others evaluated the COVID-19 status quo, measures for prevention and transmission, future plans and adherence to health guidelines, etc. Regional Director of Health Service Dr Mahendran briefed the situation at present in Vavniya city and suburbs. Further he emphasized the importance of adhering health instructions to prevent the rapid spread of the disease among the community.

Meanwhile, Polonnaruwa District Coordinating Committee for prevention of COVID - 19 pandemic assembled at the District Secretariat Polonnaruwa on Thursday (11) presided by the District Secretary, Polonnaruwa Mr. W A Dharmasiri and District Coordinating Officer, Major General Channa Weerasuriya, the Commander Security Forces-East.

The District Secretary and Major General Channa Weerasuriya had a lengthy discussion with government and health authorities regarding the need for further measures thatshould be taken for prevention of the pandemic in Polonnaruwa district. They paid their special gratitude to Health workers for taking prompt measures to curtail the recent Kaduruwela COVID cluster.

General Officer Commanding 23 Division Major General Nalin Koswatte, Regional Epidemiologist Polonnaruwa and several officials attended the conference.

Meanwhile, one more district coordinating conference on COVID-19 prevention in Matale was chaired by Major General Nishantha Manage, General Officer Commanding, 53 Division at the Matale District secretrait on Tuesday (16).

During this discussion, prcedures regarding quarantine curfew, regulations of quarantine, rapid antigen tests conducting, provision of medicines & equipment for the patients, responsibilities and suggestions of the stakeholders were evaluated with action plans discussed.

During this discussion, the conduct of the annual Theru ceremony at Matale Muthumariamman Kovil was also discussed.

Hon Nalaka Kottegoda, Member of Parliament, District Secretary for Matale, DS officials from Dambulla, Mayors, government officials at different state levels attendee the discussion.

Meanwhile, Batticaloa District coordinating committee for prevention of COVID - 19 pandemic assembled at the District Secretariat Batticaloa on 22 February presided by the District Coordinating Officer for prevention of COVID -19 pandemic in Batticoloa District, Major General Nalin Koswatte, General Officer Commanding, 23 Division.

District Secretary for Batticaloa, DIG Batticaloa, Additional Secretary - Batticaloa, Commander, 231 Brigade, Director Teaching Hospital - Batticaloa and several officials attended the conference as stakeholders to discuss matters pertaining to prevention of COVID -19 pandemic.

Meanwhile, one more round of the Matale district committee meeting on COVID-19 was held on 25 February at the District Secretariat Matale, attended by Major General Nishantha Manage, General Officer Commanding, 53 Division. The attendees discussed the annual ‘Theru festival of Muththumari Amman Kovil in Matale and control work of the epidemic.

The District Coordinating Officer for Matale for COVID-19 Control work, Major General Nishantha Manage, General Officer Commanding - 53 Division had a lengthy discussion with the District Secretary, Matale Mr. S.M.P.K Perera and other stakeholders on Tuesday (9) at the District Secretariat office.

Relevant coordination work on vaccination was also discussed during the session. Several officials attended the conference as stakeholders to discuss matters pertaining to prevention of COVID -19 pandemic.

Major General Priyantha Perera, Commander, Security Forces - Jaffna in his capacity as the Chief Coordinator of COVID-19 prevention work in the Jaffna District presided one more reviewing conference with all stakeholders at the District Secretary’s office on Friday (12).

Regional Director of Health Services presented a statistical update and all stakeholders discussed possibilities of further strengthening of all precautionary measures.

Finally, the District Secretary appreciated the support being provided by the Security Forces in the control of the epidemic in the peninsula.

District Secretary Mr Kanapathipllai Maheshan, Assistant District Secretary, Mr M. Piratheepan, Divisional Secretaries, Senior Superintendent of Police Jaffna, Senior Superintendent of Police Kankesanthurai, Officers from Navy and Air Force, Director, Health Services Jaffna, Dr Shatheyamoorthi, Several heads of the Health Services, Public Health Inspectors and Government Officials attended the conference.
