Discussions on Coordination of Organic Fertilizer Production Continue

An awareness workshop on ‘Green Agriculture’ and coordination of supply of organic fertilizer, organized by the 56 Division of the Security Force HQ-Wanni got underway on Friday (28) at the 56 Division HQ premises.

62 Agrarian and agriculture officials in the region joined the workshop where possibilities of entry into the production of organic fertilizer were taken up for discussion and implementation under the close supervision of respective Agrarian Officials and the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 56 Division in close collaboration with the Vavuniya District Coordinating Officer, Major General Saman Liyanage, GOC, 56 Division.

District Secretary of the Vavuniya District, Mr. P.A Sarathchandra, Vavuniya, District Agricultural Director - Mahaweli Zones, Resident Project Manager, Assistant Commissioner of Agrarian Development Center - Vavuniya, Assistant Provincial Agricultural Director, Assistant Director, National Fertilizer Secretariat, Agricultural Instructor, Development Officers, Agrarian Development Officers, including Army personnel took part in the discussion.

Troops of the Security Force Headquarters -Mullaittivu (SFHQ-MLT) in order to launch the use of organic fertilizer on an experimental basis recently commenced cultivation of vegetables in a land extent of 1.5 acres inside the camp compound as per directions given by Major General Sanjaya Wanasinghe, Commander, Security Forces -Mullaittivu.

Similarly, awareness projects on the use of organic fertilizer continues in the region in close cooperation with the agrarian authorities and officials. Brigadier General Staff of the SFHQ-MLT, Brigadier Wasantha Paalamakumbura and Brigadier Administration and Quartering, Brigadier C.S Dissanayake as well as other Senior Officers of the Security Force Headquarters-Mullaittivu are cooperating with these projects.

Likewise, the Commander, Security Forces-Central, Major General Samantha Silva and several Officers during one more round of discussion with the farmers in the area took up issues, related to green agriculture on Wednesday (2).
