Diplomats &;amp; UNHCR Official Meet Jaffna Commander


Two diplomats, Ms Megan Foster, Canadian High Commission Counsellor and Ms Esther Van Nes, First Secretary of the High Commission during a trip down to the Jaffna Peninsula paid a courtesy call on  Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe, Commander, Security Forces Headquarters - Jaffna (SFHQ-J) on Tuesday (4).

Both of them received an update on the security situation and development roles, being undertaken by the Army in the peninsula for the benefit of Jaffna civilians.

Assistance, being extended to ex-LTTE combatants to find self-employment and improve their economy was also highlighted during the meeting.  

Meanwhile, the outgoing Ms Indu Mohandas, Head of the UNHCR Office, paid a courtesy call on Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe, Commander Security Forces Headquarters Jaffna (SFHQ-J) on the eve of her departure upon completion of her tenure of office.

She thanked Maj. Gen. Hathurusinghe for his support during her stay in the island as the Head of the Office and afterwards introduced her successor, Ms Shoha Ruzybaevs to the Jaffna Commander.
