Differently-able War Heroes Mirror Aesthetic Skills Thru ‘Rana Handa’

A packed audience at the Colombo Bishop’s College auditorium Sunday (17) evening offered a standing ovation to the aesthetic skills of disabled War Heroes of the Army once again when they with the blessings of the Commander of the Army displayed that their strength in mind, body and the spirit, irrespective of physical disability, could never be diminished or compromised, instead it would be a stimulus to do various exceptional roles.

A total of 70 disable War Heroes of the Army, in close collaboration with the renowned Rotaract Association at the University of Sri Jayewardenepura, showcased their great sensitivity to classical artistic skills in the moving show, ‘Rana Handa’ where possibilities to induct those differently-able into the mainstream of the society were positively explored as one more project of the Directorate of Rehabilitation in the Army.

Representing the Commander of the Army, on whose initiatives, a number of such projects for disable ones were launched, Major General B. A Perera, Director General General Staff of the Army, attended the inaugural ceremony as the Chief Guest.

The pillars behind organizing the event, Major General N Udawatta, Adjutant General and Brigadier S. K Thirunavukarasu, Director Rehabilitation were present to witness those skills, together with Mrs Ayesha Herath, the spouse of the Chief Guest, Major General  B.H.M.A Wijesinghe, Deputy Commandant at Defence Service Command and Staff College, Brigadier P.S.R.L Rajakaruna, Director, Directorate of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, Brigadier K.G.H.K Embawa, Brigadier H. Kulathunga, Commandant, Ragama Ranaviru Sevana, Brigadier W.H.M Manathunga, Commandant, Ranaviru Resource Centre, Brigadier W.S Rajakaruna, Deputy Director, Directorate of Rehabilitation, Colonel I.G.R.G Bogodawatte, Commandant, Mihindu Seth Medura and Deans of the faculties at the University of Sri Jayawardenepura as distinguished guests who through their contribution too, symbolized the high regard, appreciation and significance they attach to the performance of those unbeaten War Heroes and the team.

The brotherly interaction of 70 members of the Sri Jayawardenepura University encouraged those incapacitated War Heroes to team up with the rest of the society by way of their artistic skills which in turn inspired them to sustain those talents in the future too.
