Defence Secretary Visits Flood-Affected Areas in Jaffna and Kilinochchi

The Secretary of Ministry of Defence, Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd) WWV, RWP and two Bars, RSP and Bar, USP, MMSc (Strat Stu-China), MSc (Def Stu) in Mgt, MSc (Def & Strat Stu), fndu (China), psc, visited flood affected areas in Jaffna, Kilinochchi and 52 Infantry Divison area on 28 November 2024.

He assessed the flood situation in Katkowalam and visited the IDP Centre at Katkowalam Methodist Mission Mix Tamil School, and distributed essentials and medical supplies to affected individuals.

While commending the efforts of Army troops engaged in rescue and relief operations, he directed authorities to further strengthen rescue efforts and expedite relief operations to minimise the impact and prevent further loss of life.

A special discussion at the Jaffna District Secretariat followed the visit, focusing on relief measures and future preparedness. Senior officials from the Disaster Management Centre, public administration, and Tri-Services participated in the event.
