Cycling Army Men & Women Overall Champions in Air Force ‘Papedi Sawariya’

The Sri Lanka Army cyclists won the overall team championship in the recent ‘Guwan Hamuda Papedi Sawariya 2022’ of the Sri Lanka Air Force that coincided with the 71st anniversary.

It was held for the 23rd consecutive year and men’s race was held during 4 - 6 March 2022 under 3 stages. Cyclists from all around the country participated in this race that covered a distance of 412 km in total.

Corporal Avishka Madonza of the Sri Lanka Army won the overall Championship after winning in all three stages. Accordingly, the team championship was won by the Sri Lanka Army Cycling team.

In the women’s race held on Sunday (6) from Puttalam to Katunayaka covering 100 km in distance, Lance Corporal Shalika Dilhani of Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps grabbed the first place and Lance Corporal Madumali Fernando of Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps ended as the third. The women’s overall team championship was won by the Sri Lanka Army Cycling team.

The presentation ceremony was held at the Eagle’s Lagoon View Banquet Hall, Katunayake and the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana graced the ceremony as the Chief Guest. Members from the Air Force Board of Management, the Chairman, SLAF Cycling, Air Commodore Kithsiri Leelarathne, representatives from all the sponsors who joined hands with the entire event were present at the awarding ceremony.
