Court Remands Four Men Threatening Against Women's Recruitment to the Army


Puthukudiyiruppu Police in Mullaittivu on a Court directive Tuesday (4) afternoon, remanded three men, said to have threatened and tried to assault a father who have consented to his two daughters joining the Army as recruits. One more suspect in the same team was released on bail by the Court.

Those four suspects on hearing that two daughters of Mr K Madaswamy of Theravil, Udayarkattu, Puthukudiyiruppu, were volunteering to join the Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps (SLAWC) as recruits under the ongoing women’s recruitment drive in Nanthikandal, Oddusudan and Puthukudiyirippu areas via respective Divisional Secretariats, have threatened to assault the father of those two females on Monday (3) for giving his consent to the daughters for enlistment to the Army.

Police maintain that it had already recorded evidence from eye witnesses to the incident to be produced before the Court.  Puthukudiyiruppu Court, fixing the next hearing for 10 March 2014, remanded three of those suspects and released one more on Police bail after the Police produced them before the Court.
