Commando Regiment Wins First Practical Pistol Shooting Championship

 

The Army’s  first-ever Inter Regiment Practical Pistol Firing Competition for officers took place at the Field Firing Range (FFR) at Diyatalawa during Feb 9-10.

The Inter Regiment Practical Pistol Firing Competition saw its birth as a new project, introduced by the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya for the first time in the Army history of practical pistol firing.

Team championship of the event was won by the Commando Regiment, and  Gemunu Watch and Sri Lanka National Guard pistol shooters secured runners up slots respectively during the tournament.    

Brigadier K.W Edema, Chairman, Army Small Arms Association took the initiative in this connection and organized the first-ever competition, to begin with Army officers with the support of many regiments.

The event, aimed at selecting the best pistol shooters for the National Practical Pistol Firing Team, ended with the award of medals and certificates during a ceremony on Monday (11) at 1000m-range at Diyatalawa.

Major General Jagath Dias, Adjutant General, Sri Lanka Army graced the awarding ceremony as the Chief Guest at the invitation of the Army Small Arms Association.
