MORE and more civilians, concerned with numerous sacrifices and invaluable contributions of the War Heroes continue to lend their helping hand to the Army for promotion of living standards of the military personnel.
Philanthropists, Mr K.A. Wimal and Mrs G.A.D. Dilani Deepika of Malabe, Kaduwela were kind enough to donate a plot of land at Malabe for construction of a new house to Sergeant N. Atygalle of 2 Commando Regiment who sustained serious injuries in Janakapura, Welioya during the battle and became partially handicapped in the year 1995.
One more philanthropist, Mr Muditha Wanigasinghe, Managing Director, Farmkem Company Ltd of Boralesgamuwa came forward to make the dream of building a new house to this injured War Hero a reality. Mr Wanigasinghe canvassed financial support from the staff in his company for this worthy cause and collected funds for the total construction within a short period of time. Their generosity finally bore fruits.
A few days ago Major General S.M de A Rajapakse, Colonel of the Regiment, Commando Regiment received the replica of a key to the new house from donors during a brief ceremony. Major General Rajapakse in turn handed over the keys to the injured soldier. The traditional oil lamp was lit as the smiles on Sergeant Atygalle of the Commando Regiment, his wife and the little son swelled, giving pride of place to the religious observances.
