12 Field Sri Lanka Engineers (SLE) troops of the 612 Infantry Brigade of the 61 Infantry Division under the Security Force HQ - West (SF-West) erected a new house for a needy family residing Kopiwatta area of the Matugama Divisional Secretariat in the Kalutara District with the support of donors and handed it over to the beneficiaries amid a simple ceremony on Monday (22).
Upon receipt of information confirming that a helpless widow was living with four children under impoverished condition, several donors and philanthropists in the area got together and reached out to the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General VikumLiyanage RWP RSP ndu for manpower and construction skills to build a house for this deserving family.
TDK Trade Links Pvt. Ltd with several donors took the lead and provided the funds for the project with technical assistance given by troops of the Security Force HQ-West after the Army Commander gave the greenlight to the Commander, SF-West.
Accordingly, the office of the Chief of Defence Staff also sponsored the project allocating Rs. 300,000/=, and 12 SLE troops collected around Rs. 486,000/= through the coordination of the Civil Affairs office. Further, the project cost around Rs. 2.4 m upon completion and 12 SLE troops using technical expertise constructed the new house under the supervision of the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 61 Infantry Division and the Commander, 612 Infantry Brigade.
Major General D.M.K.D.B Pussella RWP RSP, Commander, SF-West, graced the auspicious inaugural house-warming ceremony as the Chief Guest, together with Major General H.M.U Herath RWP RSP USP Hdmc psc, General Officer Commanding, 61 Infantry Division and Brigadier M.W.S Millagala RWP RSP USP psc, Commander 612 Infantry Brigade who threw his weight behind the success of the project with his troops.
During the warming ceremony, the chief guest and several participants also awarded household gifts to the beneficiaries as incentives. Several Senior Officers, Officers, Other Ranks and sponsors attended the day's event.
