Commander in Wanni Inspects Army Construction Works


Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake on Thursday (4) toured several areas in the Wanni in order to see for himself the series of construction works that had been under taken by the Army in Vedithalathivu, Nandimithragama, Padaviya and a few other places.

As the first leg of his tour the Commander went to the Army Commando’s School at Vedithalathivu and inspected the Commando’s School site and discussed measures that can be taken to improve the status quo.

Afterwards the Commander arrived in Nandimithragama where the legendary Nandimithra giant’s statue is being erected. At the same time he took time off to assess the ongoing construction projects being pursued by Army Engineers and Wanni troops.

Later on the Commander visited Special Force Training School at Padaviya, 56 Division and 62 Division areas.

Two new volleyball courts erected at the 62 Division Headquarters and the 56 Division Headquarters were also opened by the visiting Commander separately at these two Headquarters.

Two separate exhibition matches played by Sri Lanka Army, Sri Lanka Air Force, Seeduwa Davisamara Maha Vidyalaya team and Nattandiya Dhammissara Madya Maha Vidyalaya team inaugurated these courts by way of exhibition matches.

Major General Boniface Perera, Commander, Security Force Headquarters - Wanni (SFHQ-W) received the visiting Commander of the Army placed a comprehensive presentation on various Army projects before Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake.

All General Officers Commanding in Divisions, Brigade Commanders and Unit Commanders were present during these programmes.
