Commander upon Assumption of Office Makes His First Official Appearance at ASL Graduation

Making his first maiden official appearance after he took office as the 23rd Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva as the Chief Guest graced the graduation ceremony of the Army School Logistics (ASL) held this afternoon (22) at the Colombo Defence Service College auditorium.

A total of 36 student officers, including officers from Air Force (1), Navy (1), 4 foreign military officers from Bangladesh, Pakistan, Zambia (1 lady officer) and 1 Maldivian lady officer passed out in the ASL Course No 5 during this ceremony.

Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva on arrival at the venue was welcomed by Lieutenant Colonel H.A.M Premarathna, Chief Instructor, ASL together with a few officers.

The ceremony got to start with lighting of the traditional oil lamp observance of two-minute silence in honour of fallen War Heroes and the screening of a documentary film on ASL set the day’s proceedings on followed by the welcome speech delivered by Lieutenant Colonel H.A.M Premarathna, Chief Instructor, ASL.

Next began the awarding ceremony of trophies and certificates to graduates. Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva as the Chief Guest was invited on stage to give away trophies and certificates to the graduates.

Major N.D.U.I.D De Silva of Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers was adjudged the Best Student in the Course and Major M.P Siriwardena of Sri Lanka Army Service Corps was selected as the Best Logistic Planner.

At the end of the awarding, the new Commander of the Army addressed the gathering and commended the commitment of all graduate students who have done well in the field of logistics, a very essential wing of the military career.

Meanwhile, Lieutenant Colonel H.A.M Premarathna, Chief Instructor, ASL invited to the Commander of the Army to launch the journal of the ASL ‘Golden Log’ followed by awarding a memento to the visiting Commander of the Army.

The National Anthem and a group photograph culminated the day’s proceedings.
