The military funeral of Major Ushan Weerasinghe (Retd) of Gajaba Regiment (GR), belonging to the Sri Lanka Military Academy Intake-28 took place this afternoon (8) at Nedimala 'Nisala Arana' cemetery with full military honours.
The late War Hero of the 1 GR who fearlessly contributed during counter terrorist operations has been decorated with Rana Sura Padakkama (RSP), Deshaputhra Medal and few other medals in recognition of his dedicated services in defence of the motherland.
Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage, Commander of the Army and Colonel of the Regiment, GR paid his last respect to the fallen War Hero at his residence along Vihara Mawatha, Pepiliyana, just before his cortege left for the cemetery for cremation. He condoled with the late War Hero's family members and spoke high of his commitment and battle skills during the war against terrorism.
The late War Hero prematurely retired on medical grounds and was under treatment for some time before his sudden demise. His funeral with military honours, presented by his fellow comrades and 1 GR troops took place in conformity with military traditions in the presence of a large gathering of mourners.
