General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army this afternoon (12) paid his respect to the remains of late Colonel Lanka Fernando, Colonel, Directorate of Real Estate and Quartering at his residence in Molagoda, Kegalle.
The funeral of Colonel Lanka Fernando of Sri Lanka Artillery Regiment who passed away on Wednesday (9) on admission to the Sri Jayawardenapura Hospital after a brief illness takes place at Molagoda, Kegalle cemetery this afternoon (12) amidst military honours and a gathering of his close military colleagues, family members and mourners.
Just an hour before the cortege left Colonel Lanka Fernando’s residence at Molagoda, General Shavendra Silva paid his respect by laying a floral wreath and saluting the remains.
The Army Chief during his stay shared deep sorrow on Colonel Lanka Fernando’s unexpected demise with Mrs Lanka Fernando, the spouse of late senior officer, his children and members of the bereaved family and assured them all possible assistance for well-being of the family members in future.
