Commander Meets War Heroes at 'Abhimansala 1' Soon after Anniversary Observances at Sri Maha Bodhi

Not forgetful of gallantry and sacrifices they made in the battlefield and attaching prioritized importance to the well-being of permanently-injured War Heroes, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage, Commander of the Army, just a few minutes after the day’s main religious ceremony at Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi for forthcoming Army Anniversary was over directly proceeded to the ‘Abhimansala - 1’ (wellness resort) at Anuradhapura where some 40 dependent War Heroes are receiving rehabilitation and recuperation for the rest of their lives.

The customary gesture of gratitude coincided with the forthcoming Army Day anniversary commemorations. Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage, together with, several senior officers, after a welcome by a resident War Hero, visited the wards and spoke to each of those differently abled War Heroes in order to inquire into their wellbeing and requirements. Showing his fatherly affection, Lieutenant General Liyanage awarded each of them a gift parcel that contained essentials during the same occasion.

After a while, the day’s Chief Guest in another gesture of goodwill and solidarity, symbolic of his concern towards those differently abled War Heroes, sat together with all the inmates and had lunch with them. Major General Jagath Kodituwakku, Chief of Staff, Major General Channa Weerasuriya, Deputy Chief of Staff, Major General Sujeewa Senarath Yapa, Commandant Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force, PSOs, Commanders of Security Forces, Brigadier Shiran Ekanayake, Director Rehabilitation, Commandant, 'Abhimansala-1' and several Senior Officers were associated with the visit.

The visit culminated with the signing of the visitors' book by the Commander of the Army before his departure.
