Commander Extends ‘Goodbye’ Wishes to Retiring Deputy Chief of Staff

The outgoing Deputy Chief of Staff, Major General Kumudu Perera of the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment on the eve of his retirement from the Army after an illustrious and distinguished career spanning over 35 years paid a courtesy call on the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva this morning (23) at the Commander’s office.

A batch-mate of the Commander of the Army himself in the Intake 19 at Diyatalawa Sri Lanka Military Academy, Major General Kumudu Perera joined the Army on 5th March 1984 and has been serving in many key appointments. Of them, his tenure as the Commander, Security Forces - Wanni shone prominently mainly because of his high profile civil community-oriented projects, including construction of pre-schools, new houses for the underprivileged, conduct of charity programmes, such as distribution of school accessories and life-support requirements for the poor, water purification installations, promotion of reconciliation and co-existence gestures, etc. His services at the Sri Lanka Military Academy (SLMA) as its Commandant, Colonel of the Regiment, Mechanized Infantry Regiment and Colonel of the Regiment, Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, in addition to his various commanding capacities as an infantryman and other important appointments received praise and appreciation.

During the brief courtesy meeting, both of them refreshed memories, related to various phases of their eventful career and experiences as batch-mates in the SLMA and elsewhere. Major General Kumudu Perera thanked the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva for all the assistance given to him for performances of his duties during his tenure. Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva commended his services to the Nation and wished him good luck in future endeavours by presenting a memento to the retiring Senior Officer.

Meanwhile, a formal farewell that got underway on Tuesday (22) evening felicitated the outgoing Deputy Chief of Staff in accordance with military traditions, in which the Commander of the Army presented a special memento to him. Mrs Sujeewa Nelson, President, Army Seva Vanitha Unit on the same occasion awarded a plaque to Mrs Shiromi Masakorala, Chairperson, Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment Seva Vanitha Unit in appreciation of her dedicated service to the Seva Vanitha Unit and elsewhere.
