Commander Commends Retiring Major General Sarada Samarakoon's Services

Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, General Shavendra Silva after inviting Major General Sarada Samarakoon of Gajaba Regiment, General Officer Commanding, 11 Division on the eve of the latter's retirement from the Army commended his dedicated services to the Army for more than three decades. The meeting took place at the Commander's office this morning (5) at the Army HQ.

General Shavendra Silva during the brief interaction recalled yesteryear memories and shared a few thoughts with the retiring Major General Sarada Samarakoon who has served a number of key appointments in the Army and the Gajaba Regiment (GR) before his retirement as a professional Officer of high caliber.

Major General Sarada Samarakoon as a battle-hardened warrior is one among who tirelessly contributed to the successful culmination of the humanitarian operation from Mavil Aru upto Puthumathalan without fail. He also immensely participated in 58 Division offensives against terrorists.

The outgoing Senior Officer also thanked the Commander of the Army for his wishes and the thoughtfulness while mentioning about the encouragement he received from the Army Chief in the performance of his duties. Towards the end of the interaction, General Shavendra Silva awarded a special memento to the retiree as a symbol of appreciation and commendation. The gesture was reciprocated.
