Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva on the eve of the festive season made an official visit to the Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna on Thursday (17) where he was warmly welcomed by the Commander Security Forces-Jaffna Major General Senerath Bandara. A drive past Guard Turnout salute of 14 Gajaba Regiment troops greeted him at the entrance.
The day's itinerary got off to a start after the day's Chief Guest was invited to plant a Mango sapling near the main entrance to the Security Force - Jaffna Headquarter premises. Concurrently, troops at 'Senura Uyana' in the Palaly Army Cantonment complex, adjoining the SFHQ-J compound planted 400 Mango saplings as an extension to the Commander's 'Thuru Mithuru - Nawa Ratak' campaign.
Later on, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army addressed the troops at the SFHQ-J Cinema Hall, in which over 150 of representative troops were present representing all under command formations of the Security Forces in Jaffna. During the address, he commended the selfless commitment of the troops and their roles in the fight against the transmission of COVID-19 pandemic and attempts being made to safeguard the citizens in the Jaffna peninsula. He made a complimentary note on welfare projects and prompt disaster relief measures, initiated by troops during the ‘Burevi’ Cyclone.
At the end of the troop address, on behalf of all ranks, the Commander Security Forces - Jaffna presented mementos to the Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army in order to mark his visit to the Security Forces Headquarters.
