The Commander of the Army Visits 50(1) Para Brigade of the Indian Army

During his visit to India on an invitation of the Chief of the Army Staff of the Indian Army as the Reviewing Officer of the Passing Out Parade of the Indian Military Academy, the Commander of the Army visited 50(1) Para Brigade of the Indian Army in Agra.

Brigadier A K Dhingra SM, the Commander of the 50(1) Para Brigade, received the Commander of the Army and briefed him on the status of readiness of his Brigade which is independent and self sustained operationally as well as logistically. Consisting of its own mechanized vehicles, artillery guns, field engineers, infantry as well as logistic elements that are all air borne, the Brigade has made a tremendous contribution as part of IPKF in the late 1980s. The Commander of Army laid a wreath at the Brigade Monument paying a floral tribute to the fallen heroes.

The highlight of the visit was the comprehensive demonstration of Brigade’s capabilities in aerial deployment of light armoured mechanized infantry vehicles, artillery guns and vehicles, vehicle mounted infantry support weapons and equipment, other essential items and para infantry troops in the battlefield. An enthralling  yet highly professional demonstration of tactical readiness as well as battlefield skills of para troops in combat manoeuvres including close quarter combat both in conventional and counter insurgency operations were demonstrated with live firing in the field firing range of the Brigade.

The Commander of the Army  also visited the Para Training School and inspected the training conducted there.  This training school has a long and enduring association with the Sri Lanka Army and has trained over 125 officers and men since 2009. Close to 100 placements  for officers and men from the Sri Lanka Army have been allocated in the Para Basic Courses in the current training year.

The Commander also took time off his busy schedule to meet five Non Commissioned Officers from the Sri Lanka Army who are currently undergoing training in the Para Training School and made inquiries on their training and welfare.
