Civilians &;amp; Students Receive Help From 56 Division &;amp; Its Brigades

56 Division Headquarters with the support of 561 and 563 Brigades recently conducted a series of humanitarian and religious projects in Kokkeliya, Kelebogaswewa and Periyakulam areas.

Five school-going children in Kelebogaswewa area under 563 Brigade were offered five scholarships under the aegis of Mr Sudath Perera of Colombo in addition to five push bicycles that were distributed among poor civilians on the same occasion.

‘Thawalama’ organization, headed by Ven Bengamuwe Nalaka Thero and a group of donors visited Kelebogaswewa village in 56 Division area and gave away dry ration bags to needy civilians. Similarly, these donors made a cash donation of Rs 25,000/= towards construction of two common drinking water wells and a pre-school building. The occasion was attended by 563 Brigade Commander, 56 Division Civil Affairs Officer and 25 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment Commanding Officer.   

Meanwhile, the new residential quarters plus the new shrine room with its new archway, built in the 21 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment unit under the 563 Brigade Headquarters was opened recently by Brigadier N.A.C.P Napagoda during a brief ceremony. 563 Brigade Commander and a few more senior officers attended the opening ceremony.

In the meantime, Ven Etambagaskada Kalyanatissa Nayaka Thero laid the foundation stone for construction of a shrine in the Sri Sambuddharaja Maha Viharaya at Periyakulam under 561 Brigade area. 56 Division General Officer Commanding, 561 Brigade Commander and 19 (V) Gajaba Regiment unit Commanding Officer and several officers took part in the ceremony.

Meanwhile, 56 Division Civil Affairs Officer laid the corner-stone for construction of a new building in the Sri Durga Amman Kovil premises in Shantha Sholai village, Vavuniya. Several officers were present on the occasion.

Meanwhile, school children resident in 561 Brigade area under 56 Division received the rare chance of visiting the recently concluded ‘Deyata Kirula’ exhibition at Oyamaduwa, Anuradhapura. Over 450 students in the company of about forty teachers were facilitated by the Army on this tour to Anuradhapura.
