Chief of Staff Welcomed at His Mother Regiment

The Gajaba Regiment HQ at Saliyapura on Sunday (16) extended a warm welcome to the recently-appointed Chief of Staff of the Army, Major General Vikum Liyanage when he made a formal visit to his Regimental Centre.

The Centre Commandant, Colonel Shirantha Millagala welcomed Major General Vikum Liyanage on arrival as he arrived there after assumption of duties as the Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army. The Chief of Staff was warmly welcomed then by the Council Members who were present at the occasion.

Subsequently, the Chief of Staff paid his tribute to the statue of the founder father of the Gajaba Regiment Late Major General Vijaya Wimalaratne by placing a floral wreath. Afterwards, he received the salute in the Guard of Honour presented by the Gajaba Regiment troops. He was also invited to plant a sapling in the compound as a symbol of memory of his visit to the ‘House of Keterians’ after the new appointment.

Council Members, Senior Officers of the Regiment, Centre Commandant and the Regimental Staff took part in this official event.
