The Colonel Commandant of Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers and the Chief Field Engineer Major General Nihal Amarasekara made his first formal visit to Headquarters, General Engineering Brigade at Kachchigala, Embilipitiya on 25 February 2021.
After being appointed as the Colonel Commandant of Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers, choosing to make his first visit to General Engineering Brigade was an inspiration to the Officers and Other Ranks of the Brigade Headquarters.
Lieutenant Colonel F Joseph, overlooking Brigade Commander of the General Engineering Brigade, having welcomed the Colonel Commandant to the camp premises and briefed him the role and tasks of General Engineering Brigade including presently ongoing government projects vested in the Engineer Division.
As per the itinerary of the Brigade Colonel Commandant of Corps of Engineers, the visiting Major General Nihal Amarasekara planted a sapling in the camp premises before he addressed the officers and other ranks of the General Engineering Brigade emphasizing Commander of the Army’s vision for raising the Brigade. He also symbolized the Colonel Commandant’s arrival by inviting him to unveil the Headquarters insignia at the entrance to the camp.
General Engineering Brigade of the Engineer Divison was raised and established on 28 October 2020 as per a concept of the Commander of the Sri Lanka Army to assist the government in undertaking nation-building projects. As of today, this Brigade has completed construction of 03 school projects and 22 school projects/ playground constructions are still underway.
Staff Officers of RHQ - SLE and all under command battalion Commanders of the General Engineering Brigade namely, Lieutenant Colonel R. T Ganegoda SLE - Commanding Officer 1 SLE, Major BMP Beligahawatta RSP SLE - Commanding Officer 15(V) SLE, Major KWGUM Gunathilake Lsc CES - Commanding Officer 12(V) CES and Officers and ORs of Brigade HQ participated for this event at Kachchigala, Embilipitiya.
