Certificates Awarded to English Language Course Attendees


The first English Language Course - 2014 for officers, organized by the Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna (SFHQ-J) in coordination with the British Council of Jaffna   formally ended on Thursday (11) with award of certificates to the students during a ceremony at SFHQ-J.

Thirty one commissioned officers, representing all military formations in Jaffna, received proficiency certificates upon completion of their English training. 

Adding significance to the day’s programme, course attendees conducted the whole programme in English to the cheers of the audience. They displayed their linguistic skills, acquired from the course during a concert and a variety programme, including presentation of a Shakespeare’s drama in English.

Officers with excellent performance received their certificates and awards from Major General Nandana Udawatta, Master General Ordnance at Army Headquarters, Chief Guest at the occasion.

Manager of the British Council Jaffna Ms Manda Brown and Major General Udaya Perera, Commander, SFHQ-J also joined in to give away certificates.

Arrangements were made by the Headquarters Security Force (Jaffna) for parents and family members of those graduating officers of the course to witness the event.

English Course was a part of academic and military training programme, organized by the SFHQ-J following guidance given by Major General Udaya Perera, Commander, SFHQ-J.

Mr. Sri Rajkumar Kanapathipillai and Mr. Aravinthan Vadivel assisted Army English instructors to improve the language skills of officers during the ceremony.  

The importance of English as a key to professional career development and enhancement of world-wide knowledge was underlined during the ceremony.
