Central Troops Distribute More Than 5 Lakhs of Water


Security Force Headquarters-Central (SFHQ-C), joining the practice of distributing drinking water, as being done elsewhere in drought-affected areas, has launched a continuing project to supply water to drought-hit people in Minipe, Ridimaliyadda, Thanamalvila, Wellawaya, Buttala, Moneragala, Siyambalanduwa, Medagama, Bibila, Madulla, Badalkumbura and other areas in Badulla and Moneragala districts.

On the directions of the Commander of the Army, Major General Mano Perera, Commander, SFHQ-C instructed 11 and 12 Divisions to provide relief water supplies to affected areas.

Beginning August 17, the SFHQ-C using more than 40 bowsers of the Army has been supplying water to more than 30,000 families to-date with the active participation of hundreds of troops from 111, 112 and 121 Brigades serving under the SFHQ-C.

Collective efforts of the troops have delivered more than 5 lakhs of water liters in the past one week alone, in addition to a stock of bottled water distributed among civilians in Madulla Divisional Secretariat area on August 19, following a donation received by the Army.

All General Officers Commanding, Brigade Commanders and Unit Commanders under the SFHQ-C actively contributed to the success of the project.
