CDS &;amp; Army Commander Inspect Independence Day Rehearsals at Anuradhapura

Chief of Defence Staff Air Chief Marshal W.D.R.M.J. Goonetileke and Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, now in Anuradhapura in order to inspect military arrangements in place in connection with the forthcoming 64th Independence Day, inspected military parade rehearsals on Wednesday (01).

This year’s theme of the Independence Day is 'Let us build a miraculous motherland' and the main ceremony, headed by President Mahinda Rajapaksa, will take place at Sri Sambuddhathwa Jayanthi Mawatha in Anuradhapura with the participation of some 2600 personnel of the tri-services, Police and Civil Defence Force.

Air Chief Marshal W.D.R.M.J. Goonetileke and Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya after visiting the rehearsals gave further instructions for those in charge of the parades to make some qualitative improvements and other necessary changes.

Afterwards, Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army, together with senior officers visited the Army stall at ‘Deyata Kirula’ exhibition at Oyamaduwa, Anuradhapura.

Lieutenant General Jayasuriya had a close look at the Army exhibition stall and instructed accordingly.
