Bogaswewa New Year Festival Held

A large gathering of Security Force personnel and civilians got together on 29 April in Bogaswewa area, Vavuniya and celebrated the Sinhala and Tamil New Year spirits during a special festival at Bogaswewa Vidyalaya playground.

Formalities such as national flag-raising and oil lamp lighting paved the way for commencement of the day’s proceedings.

Traditional folk games, fun-making features and collective contests, like tug of war, cadjan-weaving, marathon races, etc drew attention of the gathering.

The ‘Sanidapa’ music band kept the spectators sleepless until into the small hours of the following day and entertained the public in a mammoth musical evening.

Major General Boniface Perera, Commander, Security Force Headquarters - Wanni (SFHQ-W), together with several General Officers Commanding, Brigade Commanders and senior officers, witnessed the ceremony at Bogaswewa.

Nestlē Lanka Pvt Ltd, Dialog Company and Bank of Ceylon provided sponsorship for the success of the event.
