ASVU at AHQ Contributes to International Women’s Day

Adding special recognition to the International Women’s Day, the Sri Lanka Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU), chaired by Mrs Sujeewa Nelson, President, ASVU had its own commemorative ceremony on Monday (8) at the Army HQ multifunction hall with donation of sewing machines and cosmetic parcels, presentation of teaching appointment letters and conduct of several educative lectures.

The day’s ceremony graced by Mrs Sujeewa Nelson, President, ASVU as the Chief Guest was attended by 50 lady officers and Senior Non-Commissioned Lady Officers in keeping with health rules.

By considering requests, made by 11 Gemunu Watch, 8 Gajaba Regiment, 12 Gajaba Regiment, 24 Vijayabhahu Infantry Regiment and 1 Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps, five JUKI machines, made available to the ASVU by philanthropic donors were given away to those battalions for sewing needs in respective units. Those JUKI machines would help respective battalions to attend to their sewing needs.

Afterwards, the ASVU President presented new appointment letters to three well-experienced teachers who have been tutoring the kids at ASVU-managed ‘Viru Kekulu’ pre-schools in Diyatalawa, Ipalogama and Galle as a recognition to their continued service.

Those lectures, delivered by Dr Champa Nelson, Director Apeksha Fertility Centre, Mr Krishan Smith, Marketing Consultant of Ogabo Global Perfumeries (Pvt) Ltd, Ms Dilhara Muthumali and Mrs Shimla Hamid of Ramani Fernando Beauty Academy and Nutritionist, Mrs Shakila Gamage, Dietician, Asiri Hospitals (Pvt) Ltd and Mrs Rozan Dias, beauty queen (2005 Mrs Sri Lanka) covered ‘Women’s health on productivity’, ‘Art of using a perfume’, ‘Personal development and grooming’ and ‘Importance of internal nutrition for beautiful skin’ respectively.

At the end of the day’s programme, gift packs were also given to the lecturers by the ASVU President, together with some mementos.
