Army Undertakes to Build New Hindu Kovil

Army troops, in response to a request, made by Singapore-resident Mr & Mrs Dr S Suhumaran, have offered construction assistance to put up a new Kovil in Madukulam since local people in the area are without a proper shrine for their prayers and offerings.

The new Kovil, to be named as   “Senpaga Vinayagar Kovil ” is to be completely constructed by 25 Sri Lanka Light Infantry Regiment troops under the  611 Brigade in consultation with Hindu priests and architectural designers in the area.

Both donors in the first week of this month flew to Sri Lanka and laid the foundation stone for its construction during a brief ceremony in Madhukulam.

The inaugural ceremony was attended by Hindu priests, Mrs J Kumari, Lady Principal at Madhukulam Nawa Jothi Vidyalaya, Brigadier A. Kariyakarawana, General Officer Commanding, 61 Division, Brigadier K.G.D Perera, 611 Brigade Commander,  villagers and several other officers.
