Army Troops Rescue Life of Dutch National in Horton Plains

A Dutch National on honeymoon tour in Sri Lanka with his newly-wedded wife was rescued by Army troops this afternoon (21) from near death when he accidentally fell off from the World’s End in Horton Plains while on tour in the area.

3 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) troops, commanded by Lieutenant Colonel Amitha Perera, led by Company Commander Major W.A.L. Ranthilaka, in the area quickly responded to the danger and rushed to the scene.

Corporal A.M Sudesh Lalinda taking a life risk went down along the precipice with the help of a rope, and managed to remove and lift the victim from the deep bottom while hanging on to the rope which was supported by the troops outside the cliff at the Horton Plains.

As a result, the life of Mr. Martinus Lawrence (35) was saved and he was carried on shoulders of the troops, covering a 5 ½ Km distance footpath by the 3 SLSR soldiers before he was admitted to the Nuwara Eliya Base Hospital Saturday (21) afternoon. His wife, Linda (31), who is a social worker in the Netherlands accompanied him to the hospital.

Hospital sources confirmed the victim is in critical condition but all attempts are being made to save his life. Mrs. Linda was full of praise to the Army for their bravery.
