17 Engineer Service Regiment (ESR) troops and 2 (v) Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (2 SLEME) tradesmen of the Security Force Headquarters - Central (SFHQ-C) volunteered to repair a large consignment of unusable school desks and chairs of the Diyatalawa Maha Vidyalaya at the request of the school authorities.
Major General Mano Perera, Commander, SFHQ-C, directed the troops to carry out the task within a week since the students were short of school desks and chairs. Accordingly, the troops repaired and repainted 259 chairs and 188 desks under this programme which came for praise of the principal, teachers and the parents.
The project was completed on Saturday (14) as scheduled.
