Army Troops Begin Constructing New House for Rizana's Family


Recently-executed Rizana Nafeek’s family is to receive a new house, thanks to the initiatives taken by Vice Chancellor, tutorial staff and undergraduates at Sri Jayawardenapura University, together with the support of the 224 Brigade Headquarters at Kinniya, Trincomalee.

On 24 January at the auspicious 10.45 a.m., Dr Karunaratne, Vice Chancellor, Sri Jayawardenapura University, representative lecturers and students, Brigadier Aruna Wanniarachchi, General Officer Commanding, 22 Division and Commander, 224 Brigade, together with a couple of Rizana’s family members, laid the foundation stone for construction of the new house, funded by the University of Sri Jayawardenapura.

The brief ceremony took place on Thursday (24) at Muttur with the participation of several representative donors from the university. Ven Dr Medagoda Abhayatissa Nayaka Thero, Senior Lecturer, Dr Anura Kumara, student representatives and a couple of community leaders were associated with the occasion.

Construction work is to be completed by the troops of 15 Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) and 5 (V) Sri Lanka Artillery (SLA) on the directions of the 22 Division and the 224 Brigade under the Security Forces Headquarters - East (SFHQ-E).
