Army Takes Ichchalanpaththu Students on Journey Down South

Sri Lanka Army’s 222 Brigade recently organized an educational trip to Hambantota and Kataragama in the South for 100 Tamil students from Ichchalanpaththu area.

During the three day journey from 15th to 17th October, the students enjoyed the valuable opportunity of visiting one of the major development projects in the country, the Hambantota Harbour. They also visited the Temple at Kirinda, a historical site in the south and the Kataragama Dewala, the temple of God Skanda, a religious place equally respected and worshipped by both Sinhala and Tamil communities.

This journey gave the opportunity for many Tamil students who had never visited these areas before to understand cultural ethos of other communities in the southern part of the country and also to develop mutual understanding between the communities.

The teachers and parents also joined the students on this tour which was thoroughly enjoyed and highly appreciated by all of  them. The students, teachers and parents who participated expressed their confidence in the Army and called for more such projects in the future, too.
