A bountiful harvest of 1000 kg of paddy, sown in a 17-acre extent of abandoned fields in the general area of Punani by the troops of the 23 Division of the Security Force HQ-East was reaped on Thursday (21) during a ceremony, rich with traditional rites and rituals.
The project was launched several months ago for the ‘Yala’ season in order to strengthen the government’s green agriculture policy for growth of healthy food.
With the participation of Brigadier Shewanth Kulatunge, General Officer Commanding, 23 Division, the harvesting ceremony got underway in the presence of troops and farming communities in the area.
Officers and Other Ranks assisted the harvesting ceremony.
