Infantryman R.W.V. Piyatissa of the Gajaba Regiment secured 12th place at a visually impaired marathon held on 19 April 2026 in Kasumigaura, completing the race in 5 hours, 37 minutes and 37 seconds.
He lost his eyesight after sustaining injuries during a terrorist attack while on operational duties in Oddusuduan. He is currently receiving residential medical care at Abhimansala 2 Wellness Resort.
