Sri Lanka Army team clinched the year’s championship in National Handgun Championship 2010, held at ICSP range at Welisara Naval Base on Sunday (29).
HE the President Mahinda Rajapaksa witnessed the event as Chief Guest in the company of the First Lady Mrs Shiranthi Rajapaksa, Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Tisara Samarasinghe and Inspector General of the Police Mahinda Balasuriya.
The Championship has been organized by the National Rifle Association of Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka Army Team, showing exceptional skills as in previous years emerged champions amidst cheers.
Mr Haritha Pilapitiya representing the Hill Country Shooting Club won the championship in the individual category. Winners received their trophies and medals from HE the President. Commander of the Army, Commander of the Navy and the IGP also gave away awards to the winners.
Cultural spectacles added colour to the evening as the event came to an end. President National Rifle Association presented a replica of a handgun as a special memento to HE the President before the conclusion of the day’s event.
